Perhaps imitative. Akin to Dutch jakkes (“disgusting”). First appeared in the 1960s. Compare also Scots yeuk (“anything that disgusts”), 中期英語 yuke (“an itchy skin disease" akin to middle Dutch "joke" and modern Dutch "jeuk"”) .
